Privacy policy

Today I Learnt (todayilearnt.co) is run by Annie Wagstaff, who is the data controller for the personal information described here. We follow the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect

• Account details: your email address, display name and password (stored encrypted).
• Content you post: chat messages and comments.
• Activity: learnings you read, favourites, quiz answers and streaks.
• Preferences: notification settings, time zone and push notification tokens.
• Newsletter: your email address if you sign up for the daily email.
• Payments: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

Why we use it

• To run your account and the app (contract).
• To send the daily email and notifications you asked for (consent — you can switch these off at any time).
• To process supporter subscriptions (contract).
• To keep the community safe and the service secure (legitimate interests).

Children

The app is open to anyone aged 7 or over. If you are under 13, a parent or guardian must give permission for you to have an account. We collect only the small amount of information needed to run an account, we never use children's data for advertising, and a parent can ask us to remove an under-13 account at any time.

Who we share it with

We never sell your data. We use trusted providers to host the app and database, send emails, deliver push notifications and take payments (Stripe). Some of them may process data outside the UK under approved safeguards.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account in Settings, your profile, comments and chat messages are removed. Payment records may be kept as required by law.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, delete or export your data, object to its use, or withdraw consent. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
